Yesterday marked the beginning of a new term, a new moon, a new semester of exciting books ... but things didn't all go to plan.
My priorities this week are to finish those 10 little dresses ready this weekend's Soiree. Once I started on the skirts and sewing the lace in place, a mild state of panic arose in me, wondering if I'd have enough lace to finish the job.
So, our new term began right here, at the dining table. Mariposa sat here with me so I could oversee her lessons. Maestro chose to sit elsewhere and bring his work over for me to review after each subject. I kept on sewing!
By the afternoon, all the skirts were completed. What a relief! There was JUST enough lace. This morning I'll be starting on the ribbons.
Yes, I am trying to keep up our lessons at the same time. Read-alouds will be a welcomed break, with a couple being read as bed-time stories. Maestro is now learning about Russia and starting a new reader: Water Sky. We've almost finished reading about Genghis Khan. Mariposa also has some new read-alouds: Door in the Wall, and Listening to Crickets for Science. This is the term she will also begin doing some experiments with her TOPS Science books; growing radishes and corn. I plan on letting the children both have more responsibility in helping grow some of our food in a small plot each, so the timing for these lessons are perfect. But we'll have to get more sewing done before sowing. ☺

I am really really impressed with your sewing! Lovely dress! So happy for you that there was enough lace! :o)
Lovely job on those dresses. Isn't home schooling great the way you can flex like that!
I have always loved your beautiful header so this new one will take some getting used to ~ but it is lovely none the less.
Thank you for your comments ladies.
Ruby, I've been trying to customise my header with a photo I've taken ... but now my son just told me he doesn't like it! (mumble, mumble!!)
If I get time, I'll play at taking more photos.
Those dresses are absolutely beautiful. How talented are you - EXTREMELY. We began our term yesterday as well - it went better than I anticipated and felt like we did some meaningful learning and had a quality day. Love reading your blog. I had to chuckle with your son not liking your photo - I love the honesty of boys and how they say things as they are - even when we don't want to hear what they say. smiling here.
Love your post and visit often. I have a pressie waiting for you over at www.dovesrest.blogspot.com Feel free to claim it or just enjoy it!! Look forward to your next posts. Blessings Renelle
Hello Nettie .. you may have noticed that I publicly answered to Maestro's dispute in the next post. :)
