Local History: Festival of Flight

Last Thursday, the 18th of March 2010, marked the first century since Houdini flew the first powered aircraft. We took some time to go to the official ceremony down in Diggers Rest where it all took place.

Sitting with other homeschooling friends, waiting for the ceremony to begin.

After the speeches, the official cutting of the ribbon by the mayor.

 Model of Houdini's plane.

Also on show, lovely paintings from a local artist and plane enthusiast.

The festivities continued all this weekend, too, but we could only go along today.  Yesterday would have been a lot of fun, seeing the live air show. Nevertheless, there was plenty to see today.

This was playing the most beautiful tunes.

A lifesize, 3-dimensional tapestry.  It has a real hat, real billy and mining pan.

I tried to photograph these newspaper articles as carefully as possible for reading later.

IT looks great! Isn't it fun to be able to attend things like this with our kids. Imagine how much they learned just by being there. And it makes a good break from routine :)
