Book-share: March

Gleaning from other bloggers is FUN! I love how we can share great resources with each other. This month I've taken some recommendations to add to our book collection for new read-alouds for the children.

So, I've gleaned from Unplug Your Kids and ordered the Betsy-Tacy books. They arrived from Book Depository today. Mariposa will really enjoy these, and hopefully be prompted to read them herself once her fluency comes along.

Sandra from Jumped the Ditch personally recommended Boy Overboard, so we grabbed the book and the audio book from the library for Maestro. We've been going through it on our car trips and we're all enjoying it. It certainly gives lots of prompts for conversation about current affairs and life in war-ridden countries.

Now, my turn to share. We're working through various composers in a very relaxed way (probably Charlotte Mason style), focussing on a composer every couple of weeks. I found this book at our library: The Story of the Orchestra. It has a brief write-up on various composers in SECTION 1, as well as a CD so you can hear selected works. SECTION 2 then goes through the orchestra instruments, with music on the CD to showcase those instruments. Lots of fun. The children have been racing ahead because they enjoy it. I think we'll be borrowing this book several times throughout the year. :)

Oh, we use this with our Beautiful Feet music curric! It's great ~ even though Ditz has done band & learns several instruments she's still finding stuff she doesn't know ~ & even if she wasn't it never hurts to reinforce stuff.
