Last Friday, my sister thought it would be nice to make Sovereign Hill in Ballarat our meeting place. It was the first time we were to meet my youngest niece, too. She's just so cute!
It was a day full of firsts: first time at Sovereign Hill for my nephew and niece, first time finding gold whilst panning (a half dozen specks), first lolly EVER for my nephew (made just moments before whilst we watched), first time hearing a musket shot ...
The next day, we gathered together again, but at my brother's home. Again, cousins were meeting cousins for the first time. Then the conversation lead to who looks most like whom in the family. It's always delightful looking for similar traits amongst family members. Some have similar talents, others have similar physical features. This conversation continued until we started discussing who looked more like Mum, Dad (my parents) or their parents. I think it would make a good game version of "Guess Who" (lol!)
After all this, Maestro became curious about our family tree. He realised he had never thought to ask about my maternal grandfather before (he died when my Mum was a teen). I think we'll have to dig out more of our family photos and revisit our family tree in depth, and make another visit to see my dear Nana whilst she is still with us. If we bring the family albums along, we may just dig out some more family stories we've not heard before. (smiles!)
Thank you for dropping by!

I didn't realize you came from a large family:)
A family tree is a nice homeschool project though I must say ours is only in its very initial stages!
Love sovereign hill ! We were not too successful with finding gold until a volunteer came along and showed us how :)
Yes, I'm the eldest of 9 children.
We're all married now, and with our families growing.
Finding the gold is a little tricky.
Oh lovely, a few of my favourite things :) Large families, Ballarat and family trees :)
Sounds like a wonderful time.
