It was decided by Mariposa that today would be a good day to learn to use the iron.
I admit, I'm not the most organised housekeeper, and our ironing is usually done as needed. Otherwise, clothing items are folded and put into drawers until required. So, I haven't exactly been the best role-model for my daughter.
We'd already ironed our shirts, pants and skirts to wear yesterday, when Mariposa asked if she could practice ironing her clothes.
Some of her items are fiddly, or made of material that needs caution. I suggested she start with something simple. Handkerchiefs would surely be the easiest thing to begin with.
Check the water level, then the iron settings. Safety rules were explained about NOT touching the plate and keeping the iron moving across the fabric. Then starting slowly, iron the handkerchief flat. Set the iron aside, then go about the folding.
Five handkerchiefs later, Mariposa produced three of her cotton tops she wanted to try to iron. She did a great job!

I think I can vaguely remember when ironing was a novelty! :) As for being organised...well I got my iron out the other week to iron a skirt and one of my younger kids said, "What's that?" :) LOL. Well done though Mariposa! x
Good job Mariposa! I know what you mean though as I only iron if I *have* to and try to get out of it as much as possible:)
