If you're reading "Commodore Perry .... "

I just found our library has the "Empires" series on it's shelves, and better yet, the "Japan: Memoirs of a Secret Empire" dvd.

It's been a great follow-on from reading our Sonlight history book "Commodore Perry in the Land of the Shogun".  Maestro got a lot out of, especially the first two episodes which were pre-Commodore Perry.  This documentary spans from the 16th to 19th centuries.  Well worth the watch if you can find it near you; or Aussies can purchase it from the SBS shop.

Hi Alecat,
This looks like a great dvd. What did you think of Commodore Perry in the Land of the Shogun? We really enjoyed it. I loved all the detailed pictures too.
Hope you are all enjoying Core 5 still, we are getting set to begin China soon as it fits with our SOTW history reading at the moment.
My older 2 are loving the science too, especially the History of Medicine by Tiner. We don't do all the work sheets though as we prefer to notebook what we read. The younger ones and I are working through Core 2 Science together too.
Hope you had a great Easter. :)

Hello Melanie! :)

We're still really enjoying Sonlight. Commodore Perry was a very interesting read. We've taken it a bit slower than scheduled though as some days have been busier than others.

Hist. of Medicine ~ sounds very interesting!! We're doing Science 4 with Maestro, and 3 with Mariposa. It's thrown my plans, actually, as I was hoping to have both of them do 3 .. but it wasn't challenging enough for Maestro. Ah well .. just as well we're easily adaptable. :)

I agree about the notebooking. We've deviated away from it and I'm wanting to get us back to it. Actually, I'm working on something now so hopefully I can present it on my blog in a few weeks .. I hope!

Ooh, sounds intriguing! Can't wait to see what it is as I'm always up for new ideas!

My older 3 loved Science 4 - all those great experiments. Science 5 has very few hands on experiments, but is full of great reads. I agree - it's a juggle when the kids are at different levels. Can't avoid that here though, LOL.
