It's quite a while since I posted about Cheekie.
Mariposa went out just whilst there was a break in the rain to take some photos. She's deliberately put it up on the fence to get these:
Now doesn't that look like the stance of a young rooster to you?
It's in with the other hens and, although a little timid, it's not being hen-pecked. The only threat to it's well-being is Mariposa's puppy, Midgy, who quite quickly gets into the act of rounding it up and pouncing on it should they both be loose in the backyard at the same time. Hmmm - puppies and chooks don't mix ..... but the children have been warned!

He's looking great!
Funny you should say that about dogs and chooks, we have a cocker spaniel - border collie cross and she really is fine wih the chooks. She does occasionally 'round them up' but she hasn't hurt them in the 2 years we've had her.
But our cat is a whole different story! She constantly stalks the chooks and causes them to panic. Have you had any trouble with your cats affecting the chooks like this?
Hi Melanie!
Thanks for stopping by again. :)
I so hope you're right about the pup's rounding up ONLY. I hope that will always be the case and we won't have anything more disasterous happening.
Midgy's a Wirey Fox Terrier cross with Jack Russel. He's lot more placid than most Jack Russels, but his hunting instincts may also kick in. No digging/tunneling under the fence yet, which is good.
Our cat's really .. 'chicken' lol!! He loves to sit and watch them, even goes into their run to find shade under the fruit trees on a hot day, but never stalked them. Actually, we've not had issues with any neighbouring cats either, thankfully.
Cheekie looks great.:)
We used to have a border collie/ kelpie and she used to round up the chooks, but never hurt them. It was almost as if she understood that they were part of our "family".
Have a great week,
Blessings,
Jillian
