A little geisha gift

I have a singing student going away to Japan in a couple of weeks.  She earned a scholarship through her high school (year 10).

She also recently turned 16, so I thought I'd make this for her as a belated birthday gift.

My inspiration was from something I saw on Pinterest.  I just made the pattern up as I went, just going by the picture.  Looking back at the original, mine isn't as neat as hers, but I think it turned out okay.

I decided to go with a nature theme, with some french knots for flowers, a bluebird on the back and butterfly on the front.
