Newsademic: Icelandic volcano

Something I'd started last year was to use Newsademic's fortnightly newspaper in our homeschooling.  Maestro uses the free cover story for his comprehension work, and it's a great way to do some current affairs and geography at the same time. (Click here to request your free sample, or to sign up for free fortnightly cover stories).

This week is all about Iceland's volcano and how the ash has caused havoc in Europe, in particular for aircraft.

A friend has shared some fabulous photos being shared via email.  Here are a few showing the spectacular lightning occurring over the volcano.

Origin of photos unknown.

A comment was made about how the lightning was being drawn back into the ash, most likely because of the magnetic rock and lava.  A very interesting observation, although I don't know the physics of it all.
