These pictures were taken this morning. Most of the work and painting was completed under blue skies on the weekend, but then down came the rain. We are SOOOoo close to being all done; just an outside window latch and spring needed to secure the small chook door.
The completed view, south side
(you can see where the rain washed the paint off on the laying box lid):

With the laying box lid open:
North/west view - the window opens on the north side, and the wire mesh is still to be put up inside:
and with window shut (latch still needs to be put on):
The door faces east.
Hubby has made a pulley so the children can open the door from outside the fence.
Close-up of the hen's door. We'll be having to purchase a spring to help keep the door shut once lowered, preventing access for cats. (We've never had problems with foxes.)
Top of the pulley (something hubby's selvedged from somewhere!)and to be tied off using an old curtain rod holder:
The main door is for easy cleaning access:
and latched on the north side:
Just a second coating of paint, plus those couple of little jobs mentioned above, replace the fencing so that only the laying box is protruding out the front, fresh straw and then we're ready for our new hens.
I am really looking forward to our own fresh eggs again!!

Looks good, and I like the idea of not actually having to go into the chook house to open the door for the hens to go out. :)

You are making great progress on your hen house- there will soon be the sweet sound of chookies telling you they have layed another egg in your back yard.
