Autumn is here!

It's the Autumnal equinox tonight, marking our beginning of Autumn here in the southern hemisphere, and of course Spring in the northern hemisphere.

I enjoy explaining to my children the seasons and how the rotation of the earth around the sun works. We've drawn diagrams in the past, but there are great websites with lots of information also. See here for a quick explanation.

A tutorial can be found here, including diagrams, math angles, questions and answers, or Monash Science Centre's lesson with further links. Also, look here for a lot more detailed information. Enchanted Learning also have some great resources for Primary Schools.

I also have a keen interest in how the calendar has changed over time. Finding out about the history of the Gregorian calendar is very interesting.
